Top 10 Famous People with Dyslexia

Dyslexia is a disorder characterized by difficulty in cognitive abilities like reading, comprehending, speech and visual perception. This disorder could be hereditary, could develop later due to brain injury or sometimes could occur due to hormonal influences. Dyslexia ranges from being mild to severe. Mild dyslexia includes problems associated with reading abilities while severe form could affect visual and audio perception.

Studies involving dyslexic patients have found out that dyslexic patients show less electrical activities in the region of the left brain involved in reading compared to normal people. Another study involving anatomy of brain has shown that there exists difference in the speech center of the brain. Despite the difficulties, it has been found that with early diagnosis and proper instruction patients can attain good cognitive abilities.

Spielberg was not good at academics or sports and was bullied in school. However, he move forth with his interest and with the motivation of his family completed college at the age of fifty. The mystery about his poor reading was solved as he was diagnosed with dyslexia in 2006 at the age of sixty.

Thanks to his dyslexic mind, he has directed and produced most critically acclaimed movies in the modern film industry including Schindler’s List, Saving Private Ryan, Jurassic Park and Indiana Jones. Once in an interview Spielberg suggested children with dyslexia that “sometimes you must dart between the raindrops to get where you want to go.”

Dyslexic mind is not limited to actors and inventors; Steve Jobs, the co-founder of one of the technological giants of all times was also dyslexic. Jobs was frustrated throughout his study years in school and college and finally dropped out of his college just after attending a semester.

At the age of 21, he co-founded a company, Apple along with his high school mate Steve Wozniak.  He demonstrated unparallel ingenuity and invented products that revolutionized the technology forever.

Cher has been awarded with an Academy Award, an Emmy Award ,three Golden Globe Award and a Cannes Film Festival award.

It might come as a surprise to know that the multitalented artist and actress is a college dropout. Due to the learning disability, later diagnosed as dyslexia in her 30s, schooling was not easy for Cher as other normal kids for she could not grasp the subject matter. Though she stills encounters the problem in her day to day life and is a slow reader, she has established herself as one of the most popular artist of all times.
